Audubon Conservation Ranching
National Audubon Society programme certifying bird-friendly working lands used to raise cattle and bison.
- About
- National Audubon Society operates the programme; Food Alliance administers third-party verification.
- Certifications
- The September 2023 standard requires a ranch-specific habitat plan and annual third-party verification. Regional and ranch-specific requirements also apply.
- Practices
- The standard prohibits feedlot confinement but permits grain alongside forage. The seal alone does not mean 100% grass-fed.
- Sourcing
- Eligible animals must spend at least their final six months on certified land. Animals can come from non-certified operations if the required records and declarations are obtained; the seal alone does not establish lifetime residence.
- Practices
- Sick or injured animals must receive treatment. Antibiotic-treated animals become ineligible for the programme.

What bird-friendly certification covers
The September 2023 standard requires a ranch habitat plan and annual verification, allows grain alongside forage, and requires eligible animals to spend at least their final six months on certified land. Separate brand rules can be stricter.
Protocol requirements do not establish a particular ranch’s current audit results or the origin of an individual package.
